NeoBards Entertainment Studio Creative Director AL Yang will be attending Game Developers Conference 2026 (GDC 2026) as a guest speaker on March 11. His talk, SILENT HILL f: The Challenges of Creating a Melee-Only Horror Game, will shed light on the team’s challenges and experiences in shaping a melee-only horror game.

SILENT HILL f is a departure from the design framework of traditional range-focused horror games, making it the first melee-only title in the franchise. This talk will include a deep dive into the pacing of classic ranged combat oriented horror games and the design choices that helped craft a tense, well-paced combat system for SILENT HILL f. Other topics include the core combat mechanism, character progression planning, enemy AI design, as well as the considerations that went into designing the visual style and mechanisms of the protagonist, Hinako. See below for event details.
