At this year’s Tokyo Game Show, Capcom announced the upcoming release of a new 4v1 asymmetrical online survival horror game called “Project Resistance” (temporary title). The game was available for playtesting at the Capcom booth.

Capcom’s “Project Resistance” producer Masachika Kawata announced the co-development with the Taiwanese developer Neobards Entertainment, followed by a speech by Neobard’s Chairman and CEO, Jean-Marc Morel.

Mr. Morel introduced the highly experienced, international team behind the project, and spoke highly of the close relationship with Capcom, built over the course of many projects successfully launched together.

“Neobards has always been maintaining the same passion and having fun when making the game, and we believe that all gamers here at the TGS must also experience the fun when playtesting the game,” Mr. Morel said.

After the speech, Mr. Kawata and Mr. Morel shook their hands and took a picture together as a symbol of friendship and trust between the two companies.

The team, many of whom were present at the TGS event, were quite excited to see the results of all their hard work showcased on such a high-profile, international event.

The “Project Resistance” game was built in Capcom’s RE Engine, used on many of Capcom’s most successful games, including the Resident Evil series. The gameplay is asymmetrical, with 4 “Survivor” players working together to try and escape an elaborate and deadly maze, competing against a “Mastermind” player in a control room trying to deny them escape by activating traps and choosing where and when to spawn monsters.

Each Survivor has their own unique characteristics and set of skills, which if well coordinated, make them very hard to defeat. However, the Mastermind has a high-level view of the combat, can create a variety of strategies to play, and can even enter the combat himself as a classic Resident Evil villian!

Currently in closed beta, “Project Resistance” has garnered a great deal of critical and player acclaim, and has proven itself popular with streamers due to its intense gameplay and down-to-the-wire tension.

The “Project Resistance” closed beta registration began on September 12, 2019, and was opened for players on Oct. 4th. We would like to cordially invite players to join the playtest, and tell us what you think!
